Brothers,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the brothers who volunteered to help with the Fire Works Booth this year. Our assistance makes the event a meaningful one for our Lodge and shows the community that Coastside Lodge is a part of the community.

I would like to remind the current officers in the line to enjoy each year and each position as it comes, as the point of being an officer is not to become Master of the Lodge, but to enjoy the journey of growth, development and knowledge that is gained in each step.

Also, I recommend to any Master Mason if the opportunity presents itself, to progress through the officers chairs and eventually become the Master as it is truly a rewarding experience.

Finally, I wish to express my personal Thank You to all the wives, significant others and families of our members for their continued support.

Fraternally
Ron Ragland, WM

Message from the East

Brothers,

Here we are at the halfway point of the year already, and much has been done, but there is so much more to be done.
I must mention that Brother Roger Spindler has gone on before us and awaits our arrival at the Great Architects’ Grand Lodge.

Brother Spindler was inducted into our fraternity September 9, 1954 and raised June 16, 1955.

Spindler was raised at the Far West Lodge #673 (Golden Gate Speranza #30) and affiliated with Coastside Lodge August 2, 2009.
Therefore, Brother Roger Spindler while here with us was a Master Mason 56 years and 2days, a Good and Upright Mason.

Please take a moment to silently acknowledge and celebrate our Brother’s entry into the Great Lodge for eternity.

Fraternally
Ron Ragland, WM

Message from the East

Brothers,

First, I would like to thank you all for your continued support for our Country, Grand Lodge, Brothers, and our Lodge. I would like to address a growing concern. That concern is our continuing decline of Masons.

Over the years, the older Masons are traveling the road that leads them to the Celestial Lodge. Although, there has been an increase in the number of new Masons, it is nothing like the day of the “Greatest Generation”.

We would hope that you would be thinking about a good candidate to come in and join our ranks to help the Craft with the labor.

Secondly, it weighs heavily on my heart that Lodge attendance is down. I realize, in today’s fast paced life, that our cable tow is stretched to its limit. However, I encourage you to revisit your obligation and return to lodge as often as you can. The Brethren need every one of us to complete the labor set forth before the Craft. So, please remember your obligation and consider this an official summons.

Now, at Coastside Lodge, I have set the Craft to labor with proper instruction to bring our Lodge back to its former glorious state. Your officers for 2011 have set a high bar to continue to improve our Lodge Status. We are trying to bring our collective Brethren to a new era in Masonry, but to do so affectively we must learn from our past. So I am asking that all able Brethren assist us in this great undertaking.

Fraternally
Ron Ragland

From The East (May 2011)

Brothers,

Although Masonic ritual varies between jurisdictions, a consistent message conveyed to every candidate is that charity is an essential part of Freemasonry. And charity ought to come to us as naturally as breathing. It is NOT meant to be turned into an event, a production, or the means by which we justify ourselves to the public; it may be very tempting to do so, but, in a Masonic sense, it is wrong.

Beyond our focus on individual development and growth, Masonry is deeply involved in helping people.  When we are initiated as Entered Apprentices, one of the most powerful statements made to us in that ceremony is "Charity is the chief of every social virtue and the distinguishing characteristic of Masons." From this statement the Freemasons of North America contribute well over $2-million a day to charitable causes.

In Pacifica, Coastside Lodge must take an active role in our local community. Recently we had people cleaning beaches and others making sure we continue to support Public Schools through financial support. But we must look for more opportunities to make Coastside Lodge a relevant organization and community partner.

Fraternally,
Ron Ragland

From The East (April 2011)

I greet you my Brother, it is my pleasure to serve our lodge as Worshipful Master for the coming year. I strongly urge and invite all brothers to join us in our many activities.

Raising new Masons is a time tested, impressive process in which we all believe and subscribe. We continue to administer all three degrees in our Blue Lodge as we have for over half a century.

I am committed to our major purposes for being here: working diligently to bring other worthy men into our Fraternity and seeing them rise to Master Mason. That is why I have set a goal of 10 new Master

Masons this year. But the number we raise isn’t as important as helping a worthy brother reach the beginning step of his fraternal journey.

May we see all brothers Of Coastside Lodge #762 attend a Lodge meeting soon and often so the bonds of Friendship, Harmony, and Brotherly Love continue to grow within each and every one of us.

Fraternally,
Ronald B. Ragland
Master

From The East

Greetings Brethren:

On January 15th, 2011 you bestowed upon me one of the greatest honors of any mason’s life, electing me Master of Coastside Lodge.

I am humbled and honored for the confidence you have in me to carry forth our reverent, yet, ever changing craft. I will discharge the duties of this exalted station with both fidelity and integrity of our gentle craft, not only to the tenure of my term in office, but to the end when I too shall lay down the working tools of life.

My VISION is the same as every other Master who has gone before me. My vision is “Preserving our Masonic Heritage for future generations.

Our membership goal for this year is to raise 10 new Master Masons. If every brother active in the lodge brings in two new candidates we can reach this goal.

Also I encourage everyone to attend all the events this year. “Together we can do it!”

Fraternally,

Ronald B. Ragland
Master

Message From The East

I would like to thank all of the officers for making our 2011 installation a huge success. To Maria and Nicole, thank you again. This is Cancer Prevention month and we will be serving a healthy meal at our Stated Meeting dinner. Not that our other dinners have not been healthy.

Grand Master Bill Brey’s 201o-2011 project, aims to put more Certified Oncology Nurses into California’s Hospitals, clinics and care facilities. I am asking every-one to help our Lodge in sup-porting this cause I hope we have a big turnout for our first Stated Meeting.

From The East……

Brethren, as we enter the month of January it is become my pleasure to pass the top hat along with its duties and privileges to soon to be, Worshipful brother Ron Ragland.
The Worshipful Master who is proficient and knows the duties of each officer. He is alert for any evidence of dissension, misunderstanding, or lack of interest in the Lodge and he must maintain within the lodge a spirit of harmony and cooperation, which only can be done through understanding and confidence. One of the most important factors contributing to the success of the Lodge is having a well planned and organized program for each new Master’s year. Then it takes work, time, and more work learning and planning to make for real success in a Lodge. The building of a successful Lodge is largely the responsibility of the Worshipful Master. He must not only be an excellent presiding Officer, but he must be a spiritual guide for the brethren of his Lodge, a government between when necessary, and an instructor in the ritualistic teachings. He must ever be on alert for ways and means of stimulating interest in the Lodge’s program. The Master is directly responsible for the planning and presentation of activities that will inspire and inform the brethren of his Lodge and thus assure its growth and development for his year as Master and paving the way for his successors. It is also very well known the position of Worshipful Master of a Masonic Lodge is draped with honor, clothed with authority, cloaked with responsibilities, and adorned with obligations. It pays no wages in coin or dollar, yet if offers to the worthy a wealth of experience. To the weaker it lends strength, to the strong it teaches humility, to the vein it offers glory, and to the faithful an opportunity to serve mankind. To sum things up, we are all blessed to have an incoming Master whom believes in all the above written and even more so. Ron Ragland is tried and true to our fraternity and all it stands for, and Coastside Lodge is privileged to have so great and honest a man to lead us through our ensuing Masonic year of 2011.
Congratulations Brother Ragland, you’ve definitely earned it!!!!

Fraternally, Worshipful Brother Schirmer

From the East

Brethren,

September was an extremely busy month for Coastside Lodge. Coastside started off with a wonderful Stated Meeting dinner prepared by Maria Ragland and Ann Lewkowitz followed by our monthly meeting. We then proceeded to confer a second degree upon Brother Alexander on Wednesday the 22nd, with our District School of Instruction immediately following on Thursday the 23rd. With no time to rest we conferred two third degrees on the 29th and 30th upon Brothers Jaymes Alexander and Tony Ramirez. A few of the Brothers and myself also had the pleasure of attending an outdoor third degree held in Half Moon Bay by San Mateo Lodge. The atmosphere was beautiful and many people from Bay Area Lodges were present. Grand Lodge’s Annual Communications was also well attended with brothers representing Coastside and providing valuable votes on new and existing Legislature.

Although there are only four Thursday’s in October, we will be making the most out of our time by conferring a double 3rd degree on the 14th for Brothers Steven Hanson and Thomas Williams. Then on the 21st we will having two first degree conferrals upon Mr. Albert Silao and Mr. Jeremy Koeler. I would like to thank the brethren, their families, and our officers for all their continuous hard work, dedication, and support. Coastside would not exist without you!

Fraternally,
Worshipful Michael Schirmer, PM
