From The East (June 2012)

Greetings Brothers,

Hope my message finds you and yours in good spirit.

Our Lodge will soon be going dark for the summer, and during this time I am planning on trying to recharge and regroup as well as preparing for the eventual hand off to the incoming Master for 2013.

This will also be time to reflect upon the accomplishments of the past few months. We have raised a few brothers and initiated a few others. As always the degree work makes me personally happy that we have secured the continued legacy of Coastside Lodge.

This year we have also, with Bro Roque’s leadership published our first issue of our Lodge History.(Copies are available at the Lodge)

Its hard to believe that we have already reached the middle of the calendar year and I am looking forward to working with all of you in finishing the remainder of the year on a positive and fruitful note.

From The South (June 2012)

Brothers,

Bro. Bobrick and I have just returned from the 2012 Wardens Retreat. At the Retreat we gained invaluable information about how to improve the communications and experience within the Lodge for our members.

Bro Bobrick will present information about our experience at our next stated meeting.

During the next couple of months we will be once again be conducting degree rituals.

As a condition for us to conduct the degrees, the Inspector and our Officers Coach, have asked that we have a practice witnessed by either one of them prior to the actual degree ceremony. Therefore it will be necessary for us to have all the Brothers involved in the degree ritual attend a practice at the lodge before we can conduct our ceremony.

So please Brothers make yourselves available as much as possible and attend practices as called.

Noah Lundling

From The West (June 2012)

Brethren of Coastside Lodge,

Recently, Bro Lundling and I attended the 2012 Warden’s Retreat held in Ontario CA.

At this Retreat we both gained invaluable information concerning the leadership and development of a Masonic Lodge.

At the retreat we where given information concerning several major topics important to the management of the Lodge and our membership. Brother Lundling and I will present highlights of the Retreat at our next stated meeting.

In general we were given information concerning establishing a “Team Based Approach” within our Lodge as well as techniques to support our lodge growth.

We were also able to attend a Keynote Speakers presentation given by Dr. Walter Wright, executive director of the DePree Leadership Center located at the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.

His presentation focused upon creating a stronger, more integrated leadership teams within the Lodge. He covered techniques employed by business leaders to create a team based approach which includes understanding and developing a Lodge culture which best suits our membership needs and help our Lodge thrive now and in the days to come.

Secretary’s Message (June 2012)

Greetings my Brother!

Our last stated meeting was well attended again. I hope that any of you who have had trouble in attending will make every effort to attend a meeting before the end of the year.

Please make sure to check the upcoming events calendar on the front of the Trestleboard; there are a number of special events coming up, and we’d love to see you at Lodge.

Brethren, this year we have both the 2012 Lodge Roster and a newly created Lodge History booklet. Extra copies are available at the Lodge.

In putting together our Roster, I noted that some pertinent information such as names of significant others, birthdates, current phone numbers, anniversary dates, e-mail addresses, etc. were missing. Please help us keep everything up to date by sending me your current contact information.

During the remainder of the year., we will be looking for ideas how we can better serve our brothers. So if you have a suggestion please send it to us.

Finally, the Lodge like all Fraternal Organizations lives on its membership and their active support of its activities and special events. Our Lodge is no different, we thrive when our members contribute through their attendance, knowledge and dues.

If you have any problems with continuing to pay your dues because of hardship, please contact me. We may be able to work something out for the benefit of you and the Lodge.

Look forward to seeing you at Lodge.

Fraternally yours,
Adolph Gus “Gomez” Lopez

With the change the By Law will read:

Article III Meetings of the Lodge

Additionally, our current By-Law concerning the specific amount of financial Charity for the relief needed to be increased.

A motion was made and passed to increase the amount Charity from the current $25 to $100.

The By-Law shall now read:

Article X, section 1:

The Master and Wardens shall be a Charity Committee, and shall have the power to draw upon the Treasurer for any sum, not exceeding $100 dollars at any one time, for the relief of a distressed worthy brother, his wife, widow or orphan.

As per the CMC, we will run this change notice for the next three months. If there are any concerns or comments please direct them to the Worshipful Master.

The Master’s Apron

THE MASTER’S APRON

by Brother Robert Burns (1759-1796)
(first Poet Laureate of Freemasonry)

There’s many a badge that’s uncommonly beautiful ;
With ribbon, lace and tape on;
Let kings an’ princes wear them all -
Give me the Master’s apron!
The honest craftsman’s apron,
The jolly Freemason’s apron,
Be he at home, or roam afar,
Before his touch falls bolt and bar,
The gates of fortune fly ajar,
When he but wears the apron!
For wealth and honor, pride and power
Are crumbling stones to base on;
Eternity should rule the hour,
And every worthy Mason!
Each Free Accepted Mason,
Each Ancient Crafted Mason.
Then, brothers, let a wholesome song
Arise your friendly ranks along!
Goodwives and children blithely sing
To the ancient badge with’ the apron string
That is worn by the Master Mason!

Message From The East (May 2012)

Greetings from the East and along with it I send my brotherly love and friendship.

Time slips away; the calendar indicates it’s May already, time goes by so quickly. It has been roughly 18 months that I have been the Master of Coastside Lodge, the Lodge that my Father once served as Master, 1968. It seems like I have been a part of Coastside Lodge for most of my life.

Anyway, we are having another good year at our Lodge. We have initiated several new Brothers during my time as Master. This has been very rewarding seeing new brothers enter our Lodge and I hope that they will continue seeking more Light in Masonry.

In this issue of the Trestleboard, we have several key notices from the Grand Lodge. Please take note of them.

Look forward to seeing at Lodge!

Fraternally
Ron Ragland, WM

Message From The West (May 2012)

Brethren of Coastside Lodge,

Over the past couple of months we have received a number of requests to participate in Masonic charity efforts in several different forms: Disaster Relief, Contributions to a Fund, and bestowing honors on others for their community service.

All of these constitute varying forms of Charity. But the most common concept of charity is giving, either time, money, or propriety. However, there is a more important function of charity, embodied in the definition: To have a benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity and to be lenient in judgment of others.

To me, charity doesn’t mean giving money or services, charity means having a charitable HEART.
On this principle, masonry unites men of every country, sect and opinion, and cause true friendship to exist among those who might otherwise have remained at a perpetual distance. Brotherly love is a principle, and charity, in attitude and actions, is the outward expression of that affection.

As we set our plans may we search our hearts to develop plans for charitable acts.

Fraternally
David Bobrick
